Training is the priority for 2009

Our overall objective is to have eye clinics running in Ekwendeni and Livingstonia without the need for visiting professionals from abroad. So training for local staff is the big priority. The next step is to get two clinical officers on an ophthalmology course, after which they will be able to treat eye diseases and do cataract surgery. The courses cost $7000 for each attendee. At the same time, we plan to have a technician trained for the manufacture and dispensing of glasses. A trainee has been identified and we need only to raise funds for his living costs (the course is free). The courses start in September 2009, so we aim to have raised the funds by July ’09. If you are interested in supporting training and would like to know more, do contact Sue K.
